Sam and Claudia Rothman….

19/11/2010

were members of the Calvary Chapel team in May this year.  We do our best to keep team members from getting sick, but failed Sam.  He lost a couple of days due to the Mayan Quickstep.  While one could tell that Sam was deeply affected about his experience here, but I always wonder if these folks after feeling that miserable will ever come back.  Sam worked on the days he could and we sent them home. It was back to business as usual.

Low and behold some weeks later I get phone calls and emails from Sam and Claudia.  They love Guatemala, the work we do and others that we introduced them to, Pastor Ignacio, Dr. Sergio and Veronica Castillo and Fundo Ninos a local orphanage.  They want to help financially and otherwise.  They came up with this idea.  Their home is on Dancing Leaf Lane, on Dancing Leaf Lane.  They are starting a business called Dancing Leaf Mountain Imports and are going to import Guatemala / Mayan products and sell them sharing the profits with the above ministries.

I have to be honest… I hear so many ideas and get so many promises about support we have learned to say, “Great”, and move on, not getting our hopes up.  But the emails kept coming, the plans kept getting tighter and tighter… floods and volcanoes and a full schedule on our side seemed to intervene.  Lo and Behold Sam comes anyway and heads for an international show of native crafts in Antigua.  We got him settled in the Aurora Hotel in Antigua and ate supper but we had to leave him to his own devices.  He buys a lot of stuff, figures out how to ship to western NC and has started hitting the craft circuit.  Once the money came rolling in they have faithfully followed through on the support they promised.  This is so refreshing and encouraging for us here on the field.

Here are a couple of photos of the display from last week at the Expo Center in Knoxville TN.  The cloth in Guatemala is very colorful as you can tell from these photos.

I have committed to Sam and Claudia that we will announce their shows in the future starting about a month before to give our supporters a heads up and if they are going to be close perhaps you can check out Dancing Leaf for unique items for personal use and gifts for those special people and support the ministries that have stirred Sam and Claudia’s hearts.

If you are looking for something unique in the way of gifts this time of year then here is Sam and Claudia’s contact info (from what I hear they do mail order too):

Thank you Sam and Claudia for your unique support of Guatemala and some of the ministries we love so dearly.  We will do announcements in the future for the shows you are doing.

Thank all for their prayer support.  We are looking forward to seeing many of you in December and first week of January.  When we firm up our schedule I will post it here as well.

In Christ, Dennis and Cindy McCutcheon

An update to Dennis’s article. I will be traveling back to Guatemala on the 19th through the 23rd of January, 2011. This time my daughter, Natasha will be traveling with me. It is her first time in Guatemala and I hope that God will touch her life as He has touched mine in Guatemala. We will be shopping the tiendas in Antigua and Chichicastango for products to re-sell her in the U.S. and I am looking forward to spending long overdue time with my daughter. She is growing strong with the Lord each day and I thank God for giving me my daughter.
I will also be looking for Dick Rutgers so I can show Natasha the work that he does at the Hermano Pedro Hospital. If anyone is in contact with him, please give him a heads up just in case I can’t reach him. Please pray for our travels and that God continues to bless our work. It is our greatest Joy to be able to serve and be a bond servant of the One Great God. I praise you Jesus for all the You do for us each day!
