One of my heroes died this morning….

If you are like me my list of heroes gets shorter as life goes on.  My brother David Bennett called this morning, and my mother found my dad in one of his favorite chairs and he was dead.  You follow this blog because you care about the McCutcheon’s and the work we do here in Guatemala.  This is part of that work.  We will be leaving very early in the morning and seeing our children and grandchild tomorrow evening but then early on Tuesday will be heading to West Virginia and the family farm.

If dad could have timed the event he would get a kick out of going to see Jesus on a Sunday, “the Lord’s Day.”  We could argue the theology of that clause and dad and I often chased mother from the table when we would vigorously discuss issues of faith and politics.  I will miss those talks.  All of Dennis McCutcheon’s (the first – dad) children and grandchildren benefited from  lessons about nature, stars, God’s handiwork and family.  The little ones ate it up, the teenagers would roll their eyes a and we adults seemed to always want more.

We are going to enjoy the week telling hunting stories, discussing some of those lessons above and singing, there will be much singing.  And the ladies of Lookout WV will destroy all weight loss and diet plans one might have by bringing food in washtubs.  And my cousin Gary will play Amazing Grace on the bag pipes, I can hear it already.

My dad, Dennis McCutcheon

This photo of dad will be the only picture, for now.  He was not feeling well having had a recent chemo treatment when I took this photo.  Plus the Blumes/McCutcheons never have been much for photos.  I have a laundry list of things that need to get done as you can understand.  Thank  you for your prayer support.

Interestingly this week is clear of clients coming to the warehouse… the first week this year we have no one scheduled.  hmmm.  Can God be that into the details of our lives?  That there is no one to call and reschedule as if He knew we would be elsewhere… Believe what you will, abiding in the Vine as we do I choose to believe God is in the details, personally involved in His work and in His children’s lives.  Thank you for your prayers as we travel and have this special family time.

The Hope of Resurrection…. words found on several tombstones in the cemetery where dad will be buried next to our farm and the home church.

In Christ

Dennis and Cindy McCutcheon

    Pastor Dennis and Family,

We are sadden by the news of your fathers passing, but we are also rejoicing in the fact that your father is with God and Jesus in heaven. We pray that all things will work out and that you and your family will be able to take of all the arrangements. May God give you and Cindy the strength to get through this time of sorrow. We love you all and will continue to keep you in our prayers. Love in Christ our Heavenly Father,

Jesus loves you and so do we.
